Marie Garza-Hammerlund, Principal - [email protected]

Mrs. Garza was the assistant principal at APMA for 5 years before becoming the principal in 2019. Before coming to Albany Park Mrs. Garza was a technology instructional coach. She graduated from NIU with a bachelor's degree in Education and a master's degree in Educational Technology. In 2008, she earned a degree in School Administration. A lifelong Chicago resident, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter visiting parks and zoos, and gazingat the Chicago skyline.

Originally from Chile, Mrs. Azocar and her family moved to Washington DC, when she was in high school.  She considers herself an English learner for life.  This will be her 6th year at APMA and her 10th year as a school counselor. Mrs. Azocar received her undergraduate degree in Journalism from American University and attended George Washington University for her master’s degree in School Counseling.

FINE ARTS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION & HEALTH

​Ms. Santillan is so excited to be a part of the APMA community as the Health and Physical Education teacher. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern Illinois University in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology. She never loved science until she started learning about the body and she hopes to help students recognize the value of physical activity and health-related skills for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction. She loves running the track at River Park and going on bike rides with her family and dogs; Reese and Bear. Check out her website here.

Mrs. Lam graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, with specialized certifications in Language Arts, Social Studies, and ESL. ​This will be her fourth year at APMA. However, she has been teaching in CPS for twelve years.

Originally from Rockford, Il, Mrs. Anderson attended Northeastern Illinois University, where she earned her BA in Special Education. She worked in the Humboldt Park neighborhood for the past four years and is excited to bring her experience to APMA. Mrs. Anderson loves getting to know students as individuals and finding approaches to teaching that work for everyone! In her free time, Mrs. Anderson loves to read and play the cello.

helping diverse learners master challenging concepts in math. She
sponsors the Gay Straight Alliance on campus and is a teacher
representative on the LSC. In her free time, Mrs. Whittles enjoys
running, doing yoga, and spending time with her family
